ALMONDS FOR ORPHANS ARMENIA !

Worldwide every two seconds another child becomes an orphan, 44,000 children are orphaned everyday. Hunger and malnutrition are the number one risk to their health, 60,000,000 go to bed hungry every night and every 90 seconds another orphan starves to death. We believe the convenience, Calorie Density, ease of use and nutritional benefits of Almonds make them an ideal food supplement for these children...thus "Almonds for Orphans" was born.

Our research into the life expectancy of orphans has been an amazing journey. In some parts of the world they are fortunate to live to age 25 and we can tell you first hand it is not easy to convince governments in some poor countries to allow you to help them. We tried and failed many times. All of that changed when California Consul Levon Minasyan introduced us to Anahit Martirosyan, Head of International Cooperation and Social Affairs of Armenia. Without her help the generous gift Blue Diamond Almonds provided to help the children with special needs at Kharberd Orphanage would not have been possible. A special thanks is also in order to Lilit Grigoryan for the fine job she did in organizing the event.

The staff of the Kharberd Orphange was amazing. They prepared the Almonds in various ways so all the children could enjoy them. The lessons these children taught us about human dignity and the spirit of disabled people will stay with us for a very long time. We did our best to capture some of this incredible experience for you in the Gallery below...Click to Enlarge and Create Slide Show.

Nutritional Benefits of Almonds... A recent Harvard Study found that consuming nuts regularly will extend your life expectancy. We believe Almonds are a "Super Food." They provide fiber, antioxidants and nutrients that may lower your risk of developing heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer. They may also boost your immune system to help prevent certain infections. Almonds have the most calcium of any nut, a lot of vitamin E, and "heart-healthy" fat. They also help keep the gastrointestinal tract in balance and have 6 grams of protein per ounce. Their mix of omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and fiber help you feel full. Reducing the pain of hunger is one of the primary goals of our "Almonds for Orphans" campaigns.
