Unimproved drinking water means the water comes from sources that are not considered safe or reliable. These include unprotected wells or springs, water delivered by carts or tanker trucks, or directly from rivers, lakes, ponds, canals, or irrigation ditches. Even bottled water is considered unimproved if it's the main source and there's no access to safe water for cooking and cleaning.
