WORLD POPULATION PYRAMID

90% of the old people who have ever lived are alive right now... Population profiles or pyramids are a useful tool for the visual display of the changing composition of any nation's population. Used primarily by Demographer's to display age and sex data the most obvious changes are due to increased death rates and a decline in the number of children born, but experienced users can see many other things as well. For example you can see the changes in the United States throughout the twentieth century, including those changes reflecting immigration, losses in the two world wars, reduced birth rates in the depression of the 1930's, and the surging birth rates of the baby boom years...all in one chart. The overall age distribution of a population is its highest and best use. We have chosen the 100 years between 1950-2050 for our Pyramid to show a balance of historical and future projections.

" YOUTH BULGES"

Some Demographers claim they can track historical and future periods of social unrest through identifying something called a "Youth Bulge." A youth bulge occurs when a country has a large youth population that cannot find Jobs...such as what is taking place in the middle east right now. It is estimated that 65% percent of the population in this Region is under 30 and there is a high percentage of males who are highly educated and cannot find work. In Egypt for example, the Unemployment rate is said to be 10 times higher for college graduates in urban areas than in other segments of Egyptian society. Under these conditions it is easy to understand why they are demanding change. Note the ages of the protestors in the image to the left. "Youth Bulge" theory is highly controversial due to the number of historical examples where it doesn't apply, but our research indicates it does apply when all the conditions are present as they are now in certain parts of the world.
